Mandy

My first love!

Bridge Angel

In the early 70's I became kennel manager at Springcasa Kennels, working for Mrs. Kathleen Martyn, a well known breeder of English Springer Spaniels. I worked in all facets of the kennel, including grooming and handling Springers in the show ring.

Soon after, I picked out (what was to become) the key that truly opened my heart to the English Springer Spaniel breed, a pup of my own. She was a very darkly-marked black and white female puppy, who I named "Amanda" (Mandy). She grew up to become CH. Springcasa's Miss Amanda C.D..

Mandy did very well in the show ring, (considering she had a novice in the ring with her -- me!) earning Winners Bitch from the junior puppy class at an English Springer Spaniel Club of Ontario booster show, her first time out, under world famous judge Annie Rogers Clark --- (Mrs. James Edward Clark, known affectionately throughout the dog show world by her first name only: Annie).

Mandy finished her Championship with several Best of Breeds, and has several Specialty Brood Bitch class firsts (from both sides of the border) to her credit. Mandy's offspring did well too. She has a total of 17 Canadian Champions to her credit as well as one American Champion. She produced one Best In Show winner; 3 different sons won Best In Specialty Show; several group winners and placers; a number of Best Puppy In Show winners, as well as many nice ESS Specialty wins.

Mandy proved her versatility by gaining points towards her Canadian Championship on the same days as earning legs towards her Companion Dog (CD) obedience title. Mandy taught me all about love, and the privilege of sharing your life with a Springer.

A Bridge Called Love

It takes us back to brighter years,
to happier, sunlit days,
and to precious moments,
that will be with us - always.

And these fond recollections,
are treasured in the heart,
to bring us close to those,
from whom we had to part.

There is a bridge of memories,
from earth to Heaven above,
that keeps our dear ones near...
...it's the bridge called "love".

Toby

Am./Can. Ch. Springcasa Enjay Venture CD - "Toby"
Breeder: Kathleen I. Martyn
Co-Breeder: Nanci J. Footitt

Bridge Angel

Toby was from my first litter (Ch. Telltale Author X Ch. Springcasa's Miss Amanda CD), which I co-bred with my mentor, Kathie Martyn. He introduced me to the concept of showing my dogs and really having fun doing it. The fact that he is pictured here going BEST IN SHOW and BEST PUPPY IN SHOW as a Junior Puppy from the classes didn't hurt, either :-)

I was a young 24 year old when Toby became a multiple group winner and BISS (Best In Specialty Show) winner. Later, I gave Toby to his his co-owner, Springcasa Kennels, where he remained a loving companion to Kathie Martyn and an influencial dog in her breeding program.

Special Note: Toby was the handsome Springer on the front of the Marro Bone Snacks® boxes for almost ten years, from the early '80s to the early '90s. His sweet face enticed many Springer fanciers to buy those dog biscuits (and the snacks were greatly appreciated by their dogs!)
